Not that I would benefit from it, i don't even have a dvd rom, but why is it illegal, when i can get software bundled with my sound card that converts cd's to mp3??

They are illegal because they break special encryption in DVD's that was designed to specifically prohibit people from ripping DVD's to disk.

It's a hollywood thing :)

But kinda like dubbing vcr tapes, or ripping playsta games and stuff, there's always going to be someone. I don't agree with it. I was reading a thread on a similar topic concerning games not too long ago. One of the good points was basically saying that if people continue to rip off software i.e. games, than who's to say that the game makers will continue to put the quality programming into the games we enjoy today.
