Software that can split large video files, and save pieces?

I'm looking for a video editing application that will take a large source file (in my case being a captured tape from our camcorder) and enable me to split the file into smaller pieces and save the individual parts with their own file names.

Right now all I can do is load the large file, edit out everything untill all I have is the one scene that I want, save it, and start all over with the large file. Cumbersome, no?

Anyone have any good apps to toss out there? Thanks!

Ramma2,

Download and try DVDShrink. With it, you can load and re-author a DVD file... once you load your DVD and go to Re-author, you'll find you can cut pieces out and keep the balance - with a little work I think you can get what you need. Go to http://www.doom9.org/ for the program and lots of other DVD info and program guides.
