Sometimes someone posts a really good deal on a buy/sell forum and I never get to it in time.

Is there software that can notify a user of every new thread in a particular forum?

I've never heard of one. But if you got one that notified you of every new post on FS/FT forum you would get notified constantly. If there was/is one 90% of ppl on here will be using it which would make it almost useless.

Is it correct to assume that a software engineer could make one?

if the forum provides an rss/atom feed, then you could get a feed reader to notify you. I don't think AT has one but fatwallet, for example, does have one.

yes, someone could write one...most any simple scripting language could do this with some time. Perl + a database would be what I used (because I know perl)

Yeah it could be done and I was actually starting to write something to that effect but I lost interest and stopped working on it- instead went back to wasting my free time on things like game.

I designed it to work like Google Alerts. You enter a search criteria like say "Geforce 7900" and then this program will monitor the Hot Deals forum (to be expanded to other deals forums like FatWallet) and when it finds a new post which matches your search criteria it will notify you (currently by email- since I designed to work as a stand-alone server on a separate machine).

Had a working prototype.. come to think of it I might just get back into it. I'll definitely post it here if I ever do finish it
