which would you guys orefer? Openoffice 1.14 or Microsoft Office 2003 Professional Enterprise Edition? I can get either for free but i dont know which one works better and is easier to use(interface and stuff) on win xp. i've been running office 2000 for a while now and i hate how it crashes and destroys my data. i was going to switch back to works 5.5[!] until i discovered these.

1) you might be looking for the Software forum, not General Hardware.

2) If Office "crashes and destroys [your] data" on a regular basis, you have bigger problems than which kind of software to choose. Office doesn't do that on correctly functioning systems.

3) Office 2003 Pro is worth ~$500+. Openoffice is free. If you can get a free copy of Office 2003 Pro, I'd take it. Worst case is you can sell it (unless this is an academic license, etc. that is nontransferable).

I wouldn't use the word "increadibly," but the newer versions are slower than older versions. I used the original test drive Microsoft released way back when and it was nice. The newer version isn't bad, and is definitely usable. I like it.

OpenOffice was horrid on Mac OS X. ;)

I like OpenOffice on other platforms though. I've used it on Windows, Linux, and OpenBSD.

I actually prefer OpenOffice, and I have both. I particularly like Calc (the spreadsheet).
