Software limited to dell machines

I have a dell inspiron 4000 that came with several oem programs that can only be installed on dell machines. Since i have reformatted the dell, and the software is still able to be installed on it, does the software use a bios signature for authentification?

i think so. same reason why some of the HP software at work cannot be installed on non-HP machines. it's not a copy-protection matter (since it is the original CD) but the software is coded to check the BIOS to ensure it is a HP machine.

so that means if you ever get a new computer (and got rid of the dell), you have to toss the software? thats bs.
