Software license question

Chaotic42

Hey folks.

Let's say that I buy SuperVideoGame8 for PC. Do I then have license to play SVG8 on any system? Could I download the SVG8 Mac version or copy the PS2 version from a friend as long as I don't have SVG8 installed on my system?

No, I'm not asking about anything specific, I was just thinking about all of the different PC/Mac/Unix versions of software there are.

I think you are free to install it on any machines that you personally own, and make backups for your use only.

Windows though wants a new serial key and a new license for each PC that has the software, that's one of the exceptions to the rule.

That's from what I've gathered.

No - technically even though its the same game, you do not have a license to play it except for hte product you bought it for. Of course, i have nothing to back that up, itsj ust my opinion, if you look in the EULA i'm sure it'll agree.

im confused, so lets say you got more than one pc, and you want to install something like lets say nero, you can't install it for your other pc's?😕

No, you can't. Think of it this way. Let's say you buy a pair of shoes from a store. Are you then free to steal a pair JUST LIKE THEM from another shoe store just because you own the original pair, even if you're not wearing the original shoes when you do the stealing? No.

Depends on the license. Most software only allows installation on one PC. Others have a "book style" license where you can install it on multiple PCs as long as you only use one copy at a time. Unfortunately, that style of licensing has died out a lot. Unless the software comes on a hybrid CD (Mac/PC) you most certainly cannot go download a version for another OS.

That's hardly the same thing, but you're right. Some companies are more lax than others with their license agreements, but I wouldn't expect any to allow that.

Software isn't physical.

It's more like asking if I can buy a size 16 pair of shoes, replicate them and enlarge them to size 28 to wear to a costume party as a clown, then destroy the 28s and wear the 16s as usual.
