since yesterday when i try to login to my aim with my screen name, i get illegal operation error, if i login with any other screen names no problems. I tried totally removing aim files and installing new version but same problem.

just reinstall it, the new version keeps your buddy list at a central database so it will apear after u reinstall, no worrys if u upgraded

it could be a problem on AOL's side regarding your user id and not anything to do with your install.

i removed every single aol and aim file on my pc. downloaded and installed new version when i type my screen name and password it logs in and immediately shows illegal operation error and if i login with another nickname there is no problem.

last time I had trouble with aim I was told (by, I just checked, NFS4) to find the file cdtool.dll and rename the extension-then try aim again, or re-install, etc.

I have no idea whatsoever why that worked-but it did. so I guess my advice is, rename the extension, try connecting again, and, if that doesnt work, rename it once more then re-install aim this time.

Try this.. assuming you used a newer version of AIM (that keeps a copy of your buddy list on aol servers)
