Software for Video Game Creation

Ultralight

Senior member
I came here a few months ago asking about software that my 16 year old son might try to help him put his creative ideas into video gaming. He tried Blender as had been suggested but the learning curve is very steep. He really tried hard at learning it but it became overwhelming.

I know Flash would be a better choice for him and he could transport his creations from Windows Paint into the program but the $700 price tag is out of the question.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

you get what you put into it.
creating flash games is for kids far younger. he's old enough to learn programming.

He's a student. Does Adobe offer student discounts?
Alternatively, look on eBay etc for a used copy of an older Flash system.

Alternatively, have him look at the free Microsoft Visual Studio,

The VisualC++ product, along with their free "The Game Creators SDK"
(http://www.microsoft.com/express/vc/) ain't a bad deal.
A $30 "Learn C++ in 30 days" book along with the aforementioned software should get him going.
At a minimum, at least have him look at the samples that the Game Creators SDK shows... the code is really simple to start.
