Had one in an old machine and I threw it in this Vista 32 box. It installed OK. What free (if any) software is out there to use? I don't have the original software and I'd like to try something different. Especially if it's something that I can use in a HTPC box.

That card works fine in MythTV, and I think you can use DScaler? It's been a while since I've used one of those.

I tried that and VLC.
I get video with both but no audio.

sound from your computer you mean? that should be a settings/driver issue.

Thanks.
Went through every setting/restarting/moving audio cable and still nothing.
I'll uninstall and reinstall software at some point.

If you are getting the video playback, that means the playback is working.

what is the audio setup you are trying to listen to, just the 2 channel minijack out from the sound card? Have you tried playing say a dvd from vlc and see if sound is working right?

My feel is something wrong with sound driver/setup.

If that is the same card I have there is a connection on the tuner card pc board for a rectangle shaped audio cable, like the ones on the back of the older cdrom drives. It is supposed to go from the tuner card to the line in or cdin connector on the motherboard for sound from the tuner.

Its the black connector in the upper right on this picture

This is the one I have, same black connector, different spot:

It is because the BT8XX chipset doesn't provide audio capture functions.

I have the cable going from the green port on the tv card to the blue port on my mobo sound card.

I have uninstalled all drivers and software and reinstalled.

Audio works in VLC when I play a DVD.

Mute is off

Set to line in

why is audio on line in? are you trying modelworks's thing?

if audio works in vlc when you play a dvd, then it is not a sound driver issue... something with the card software/hardware setup I guess. Anything in the manual (hahahaha)

You have to get the audio from the tv card to the sound card.
It must be a Vista issue though there are Vista drivers.

I remember something about vista not enabling monitoring of the line in jack unless it was in record mode.
google :enable "line in" monitor vista

I think I had to do a registry tweak , not using the card in vista now.
