Software for Making Youtube Videos

Hi everyone,

My son has fallen in love with Minecraft and also the many "Let's Play" YouTube channels. He wants to start making videos of his adventures in Minecraft as well. I don't know where to begin.

What is the best or what are good programs that will allow him to capture his minecraft game and also his commentary for the purposes of uploading to YouTube?

Camtasia is one of the best Screen Recorders.

It also has a video editing suite that is state of the art.

You can download a free trial and see if you like it, otherwise its a bit expensive but does its job very well.

There is also Sony Vegas for editing and FRAPS for screen recording. FRAPS is insane for recording gameplay, but if you want an all in one solution i'd stick with Camtasia.

Thank you for the suggestion Sattern but right now I don't think I'm ready to spend $299.99 so my 7 yo son can record and edit videos for Youtube.....

Anyone else have any suggestions for free or affordable editing software? We got the recording part down but now we just need to do some editing to make our vids a little shorter.

I have used Adobe Premiere Pro but it is probably overkilled for what you want and is available now only as a subscription unless you find a CS6 or older version. It is too expensive. I can recommend Corel VideoStudio X5/ X6 and they are both great. Another alternative will be Adobe Premiere Elements but I haven't used that in years so I can't comment on the latest version.

Get an Nvidia video card and just use Shadowplay. You can trivially stream to Twitch.TV or create videos to upload to Youtube. It's by far the simplest and easiest solution for your use case.

I would second just using software that comes with the video drivers to record.

They would likely have to add commentary after the fact, though. I've never tried Shadowplay, so I don't know what it's fully capable of outside of recording your screen. It would certainly be worth looking into.

I believe AMD has a similar solution, although Shadowplay is much more mature.

Freemake Video Converter, Fraps and Wonder share video editor. I would put Fraps files in a second drive if you don't have enough space. The AVI files can grow rather large.

Total Video Converter is nice too.

Agree completely. Also Screencast-O-Matic and IceCream Screen Recorder are good. First one you don't need to install and the second one has no length limit for videos.

The Windows video editor thingy that comes with Live is decent.
Lightworks has a free edition. It is verey advanced, though.

A combination of four programs I use.

Action for capturing your monitor, window or entire screen for video. It is quite good, even if it isn't as free in cost compared to the other monitor capture programs.

Krystal Audio Engine for multi source audio recording (from game and from commentary by headset)

Audacity to trim and clip the audio recordings, but Corel can take care of that as well.

And Corel VideoStudio which is a easy reasonable way to combine audio and video in a time line fashion with some effects for a very reasonable price. There is various publishing options to go directly to Youtube, or other media of choice.

Various versions are available here.

No idea if this works in windows or if windows even has ffmpeg (I think it does) but I wrote a script as follows:

Code:
ffmpeg -f x11grab -r 25 -s 1920x1080 -i :0.0+0 -sameq $1

$1 is the file name. If windows has ffmpeg a batch file may be doable too. I think there's a way to make this pickup sound but I'd have to google the parameters.
