This is not the place to ask, as the mods will lock your message as soon as they see it. If you read the forum rules and regulations, It clearly states that no warez discussion is aloud, which is exactly what this post is.

I'd help if I knew. I can't see why this should be the wrong place to ask for that. Contrary to what is stated above, I think warez is NOT exactly what this post is about. It's about running free software (like a Div-X or VCD player) on a hardware you own.

please mods don't lock... i didn't think divx or vcds were warez, they are legal forms of video files... i was watching techTV and they showed how to change from mpeg3 to mpeg4 and recommended divx...? can u clarify? if not PM me the link then... please

DivX is a not illegal (the term Warez in this case is wrong anyways ... it usually applies to pirated software, not stolen copyrighted material in general). DivX is a compression method to bring video files down to a fraction of their original size while keeping a certain quality. Actually, I'm wrong - DivX is illegal, as it uses Microsoft's MPEG4 code, without MS allowing that. But as DivX is floating around pretty much everywhere, this can't be too important.

However, copies of movies are often illega. DivX is an optimal format to spread those around the net, just as MP3 is for audio. However, this doesn't make the codec itself more (or less) illegal, just as the MP3 codec is perfectly legal in itself while copying licensed music seems to be illegal.
