Software for cloning HDD?

Just got myself a nice new WD Caviar Black 500GB. If possible, I'd like to clone my Seagate 250GB to it, without any loss of space.

Is this possible and what program would be ideal for it? How is it done? IE do I format or install windows first or do I just connect them both and tell the program to clone?
 
Clonezilla is free - but Acronis TrueImage 2009 (12) is friendlier to use, especially if you create the Rescue Media (bootable CD) so you can do it OS independent.
