Software for a DIY Digital Photo Frame

I built a digital photo frame and I am currently using Windows XP for its OS. The problem is I don't want the frame to run 24/7 nor is it easy to turn on/off the computer, login, start the slideshow.
Does anyone know how to setup up the scheduler so the computer can turn on from say, 5:00PM to 10:00PM then hibernate? I have tried this but the computer hibernates every 15 minutes.
Or is there a simpler way to solve this?
Any help is appreciated.
 
Anyone? I came back from a deployment and I would like to finished this and give it to my dad for a father's day gift.
