Software Firewall

Hello all. I have a cable modem and I decided I need to get a firewall. I already have a virus scan, so once I get my firewall I'll feel safe =) I was hoping to find a freeware one since it's just for home use. Is there one? I've heard names like Black Ice, Zonealarm, etc. Which is the best? Thanks in advance.

Russ, CRV, and others have previously posted this ShieldsUp link to a site that will scan your ports to test your security and firewall programs.
It scans about 20 ports and displays the results.

This SecureDesign link takes you to a site that will conduct scans of all system ports (1-1023) and application ports 1024 and above. The results of the scan are e-mailed to you a little later.

I've been using the no longer available ATGuard for about a year, am using BlackIce now, and have read lots of good anecdotal things about ZoneAlarm. I'm going to switch over to ZoneAlarm.

FYI: BlackIce protection will break when you update or patch your OS. ShieldsUp has a description of this and other issues that BlackIce users should read.

Started out with BlackIce over a year ago when I first got DSL.

Switched to ZoneAlarm when it first came out and like it much more.
