Software firewall and anti-virus

I have seen several threads telling about the best overall firewall and anti-virus programs, but they never mention the amount of system resources used. Can anyone point me to some good firewall software and anti-virus software that take up minimal system resources?

I've tried Norton and McAfee anti-virus, and both are quite good, but they kill the frame rates. The firewalls I've tried (zonealarm, sygate, tiny) take up > 10MB of memory, and while Kerio takes up only 5MB, it also doesn't protect the ports any more than they were before.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

For anti-virus try AVG which is free and probably the best free one available(good enough for me ),as for firewalls,I would of said ZoneAlarm,Sygate,Tiny, but you`ve already tried them.

ZA pro (trial) is taking up 4.4mb of ram according to task manager, dont think the free version takes much more.

Heard much reccomendations for AVG, probs going to try it when NAV subs runs out.

AVG looks wonderful, but isn't ICSA certified on cleaning up the viruses, only finding them... I'm still going to try it though, as recommendations have only been good.

As for a firewall, ZA Pro seemed to take up a lot more than 4.4MB (I remembered there being at least 2 or 3 programs in my task list related to it), but at your recommendation, I will try it again... maybe I was mistaken.

Thanks for the recommendations...
