I'm networking two computers together in my house. Is there a way I can watch a DVD movie on one computer while another computers drive is actually reading the DVD? I want to watch movies on my upstairs computer, but my computer in the basement is the only computer with a DVD drive? What software would allow me to do this? tried PowerDVD XP and it won't let me do it, it says unknown file type or something when I try to play the DVD. Thanks.

Don't kniw if it would work, but have you tried installing PowerDVD or WinDVD on the computer upstairs, sharing the DVD drive downstairs and then accessing the drive over the network?

I have powerdvd installed on the upstairs computer as well as the downstairs one. The drive is shared over the network, so there's no problem there, It's just that the upstairs computer won't play the DVD video.

Don't know about XP. But in other versions of Windows:
Exporer->Tools->Connnect network drive.

Another resolution: rip it off the DVD and watch it from the harddisk. :)
Bad joke.
