Software Distribution Service 2.0?

Hey guys, recently I set up a small script to create a nightly restore point, and enabled system restore (which I had not been using for some time). For the first few nights I would only see "Nightly" in the restore points, which is the name I gave the restore point I am creating.

Starting a couple of nights ago I have an additional entry called "Software Distribution Service 2.0." I Googled it, and just found some vague forum messages assuming it was something from MS. Anyone know anything about this, and why it is showing up? I don't see anything by this name in the remove programs list.

On another note, is there any way to keep system restore from creating its own checkpoints? I would like to limit it to the nightly checkpoint I am forcing.

Thanks.

These are just restore points created from Windows Update before applying an update (you have automatic updates on, when an update comes in, a restore point is created first)

Well, damn, you're right. I had that turned off, and have no idea how it got turned on. Does system restore enable automatic updates?

Thanks for the help.

Edit: just turned it off and ran a checkpoint, and it stayed off. /shrug. Still not sure how it got turned on.
