Software CrossFire with two X1900s?

I just bought a Powercolor X1900 XT 512 for a really amazing price ($240 US) and a family member who didn't know any better got me a BBA X1900 XTX 512 for xmas... Can I CrossFire these through CCC now? If not, I'll try and sell the Powercolor.

Will software CrossFire work with these cards? I know software CrossFire was one of the new features touted on the latest CCC drivers.

Test it 🙂

I'm pretty sure it's not going to work. Besides, doesnt the X1900 master card have a compositing chip on it that is required for Crossfire?

From what I have seen, no one has gotten it to work yet. AMD/ATI support was spectacularly unhelpful when I filed a support request asking for clarification regarding the driver release note that mentioned it. Software crossfire would negate the need for a mastercard with the compositing chip by having the driver perform that function. This will of course take a performance hit of some sort.

You should return the XTX as Crossfiring them would drop it's speed to XT levels. The X1900 Mastercard costs fairly close to what the XTX was running and is also clocked at XT levels.

When I get a new DX10 card , sometime in 07, I am going to put my X1900XTX in my sons pc....he has the crossfire x1900 card now. So we will be using both X1900 in crossfire set up....using the Hardware....crossfire master card , then the regular card......This should work and preform well ....right?

I sure hope so.
