what do you think ?
is it better than rain, waterfall, etc ? has it affected the performance in any way ?

i found out that vcool uses another tehnique to cool the processor :
"The Athlon (or Duron) enters a lower power state only when its system bus is disconnected. However the (VIA-)Northbridge will only disconnect the bus if its "Bus Disconnect Enable" bit is set and the CPU is in STPGNT state.
VCool allows you to enable this bit so your CPU can relax when there's nothing to do"

..by disconnecting the bus ..Waterfall,Rain,etc cooled the processor by sending NOP instructions ...it seems that the vcool tehnique is more efficient(i'm not sure about that) but it still has some bugs :( :

"Problems with system lockups :
...14 Processors with Half-Frequency Multipliers May Hang Upon Wake-up from Disconnect"

there is another issue, dont remember it exactly... either way, as soon as my CPU goes idle, if I allow it to use te bus disconnect, I get a hard lock. idle here means non-100% load - so if i run winamp, it locks, but if I keep a distributed computing client running, the system doesn't lock. of course, its then under full load, so no cooling :(

I'm no expert on VCool and would not be surprised if some users experience bug problems depending on the chipset, but with the KT266A it seems to be fine. I've been using it for several weeks now in Windows XP and it hasn't caused any problems. I run it with NB Cool Bit and the Idle loop checked and my temps dropped about 11-12C. Naturally the temps creep up when under full load, but a full load for me is playing a large game for more than an hour or two, in which case it will go from 35C to the upper 40's.

texun you have xp1700+ (11x multiplier) so you should not have so many problems like ones who have processors with Half-Frequency multipliers

i'm curious ... which is best vcool (disconnect the Northbridge bus) or others like waterfall, rain, etc (send NOP) ?
what do u think ?
