Software cooling for TBIRD?

ANy one know of a software cooler that works with the Athalon TBIRDS? It sure would be helpful at idle.

It's called ACPI

Look in your device manager.

Windows 98 also has support for it.

Just a note, but ACPI is not the same as a HLT command. ACPI will lower your idle temps pretty well, but not to the degree of a cpuidle, or other program that uses a windows HLT command.

Since WinME and Win2k use a hlt command automatically, the only time you need a program for either of these OSs is when you're using a dual-cpu setup, in which case the win2k HLT command doesn't work.

If you go to your windows task manager(winME/Win2k), and go to the processes tab, you'll see something called "system IDLE Process". This is the hlt command/exe.

Right Click on the taskbar, there should be a setting for task manager. Only in WinME/2k.

win2k has the HLT command built in too.

personally, i don't think a CPU is stable if it needs a program to cool it down. stable ones run 24/7 with seti or RC5 on.

The winME task manager is....crapdammit, i can't find it on the other computer right now...

Ingenue007, I agree, but some people like to see how cold their cpu's can get during idle.
