softphone for google voice?

I was thinking that it would be nice to use my headset on my windows PC to make outbound calls to US phone numbers, is it possible to do this?

I just found out you can do it with a plugin with gmail.com ... is it possible to send / receive calls via a softphone? Even if it was just creating calls.
