Softmodding the 9600gso

I've been researching this but all I can find is info on how to softmod a particular model, from Galaxy, of the 9600gso into a 8800gts. That method uses a bios flash. However, what I'm wondering is if the 9600gso could simply have the locked shader processors unlocked via Rivatuner or some other method (or are the shaders in the 9600gso laser locked?). Even if it's not possible to get the full 256-bit gddr3 on the 9600gso like on the 8800gts (due to 6 VRAM chips vs the 8 in the 8800gts), there should be some performance increase if shader processors could be unlocked in the 9600gso.
Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

You could only softmod that particular model because that card was an actual gts, just did not make the binning process. The other brands have an actual 9600gso/8800gs core and can not be unlocked because the rest of the shaders are not there
