Softmodding a 9800SE

I was reading through http://www.ocfaq.com/softmod/faq.php and I see that by applying a softmod to some 9800SE's I can get a "equivalent of a 9500 Pro but with an R350 core."

Can anyone please explain to me what does this "equivalency" mean? If anyone here has done it before, how would he/she catalog the performance? (in terms of not softmodded cards)

Thanks.

If you start out with a 9800se that has a 128 bit bus and 4 pipes, if the mod works you will have 8 pipes and a 128 bit bus--the same as a 9500 pro.
