Soft water magnets?

So I've go this new house that has hard water (well water). It's a tiny house on a slab and there is ZERO room for a traditional water softener machine. I see these magnet things around that are supposed to make the hard water feel more like soft water. Has anyone tried these? At first I just ignored them because it sure sounds gimmicky, but now I've found several reviews where people loved them and a friend of mine swears that his did wonders for his water.

So what do you think? Anyone tried these things?

From what I have been told by a plumber it does slow down the build up you get in your hotwater heater , dishwasher and such, but he also said he would never use one.

So did he give a reason why he wouldn't use one?

how tiny is tiny?

The house is 888 sq.ft. The furnace, water heater, and washer/dryer are in a closet off of the kitchen and there is no room left in it. There are no other closets in the house except in the bedroom. The pitch of my roof is very low so the attic is extremely shallow.

I'm not sure about the magnet thing, but you could get a wallmounted water heater, and than use the space where your heater was to put the softener..

Yes he said you still get the hard water build up on everything it just slows it down a little.
