Soft Mod 9500 questions

I have seen people refer to soft moded 9500np as 9700np. Here are my doubts. Does the soft mod open the 4 pipes that are missing? Does it raise the mem to 256 bits? Does it do both? the 9500NP is a 4 pipe 128bit (mem) card, while the 9700np is a 8 pipe 256bit (mem) card. If the mod only opens the 4 pipes it would technically be a 9500 PRO which is a 8 pipe 128bit (mem) card. If it only raises the mem to 256 bit it would be a mut, since nothing else is a 4pip 256bit (mem) card. I can get (for $50.00) an early model 9500np with the 9700 board layout and was wondering if it would be something to look into. While I know that this is the card that will accept the softmod, I do not know what the exact results will be.

The 9500np has 8 pipes, though only 4 are enabled. With the softmod it attempts to open up the additional 4 pipes, though this is not always successful. The early model 9500np with the "L" shaped memory was built on the 9700 pcb, which means it has 256bit memory.

When you say you know this card will accept the softmod, do you mean that's it's been tested by somebody already and will mod, or just it's the L shaped model? For $50 I'm guessing this is used? I doubt somebody would sell a 9500np that would mod for only $50, unless they were a real nice person :)

Its actually a co-worker that wants the latest/greatest stuff. He is almost complete with his "little" upgrade that includes a 9800PRO 256mb a 3.2C, and 1gb of 4000 DDR. I swear this guy is a gold mine to the industry. His kid soft modded the 9500 in an effort to convince him to keep it, but he would not have it. I will wait until the next round of cards come out, and purchase the 9800 cheap for myself, right now I would like to purchase the 9500 for my wife's rig.

P.S. Yes, he is a very nice person.

I'd definitley jump on that deal. Even a 9500np that didn't mod for $50 is a good deal. But since you say it mods, it's should be great. Should be right on par with a 9700np, and should get up to 9700 pro speeds with overclocking. I wish I had coworkers who were as generous as yours :(

I bought a 9500NP that can softmod and reach Pro speed for USD$165. Mine is a pretty good deal, but yours is unbeatable.
