Anyone have tips on buying and installing sod? my parent's home needs new grass in their front yard. and if you know anywhere to get good sod in Michigan, do tell 🙂 tia.

Realize that sod is HEAVY. Either get it delivered or have a really big truck. Home Depot and Lowes both have sod in my town ( although Im not near you)

Lots and lots of watering.

Sod takes time to bind with the soil on the yard and watering helps the roots grow downward.

Sod is way better than seed. Seed actually contains up to 25% weed seeds. Sod on the other hand can be weed free, all you need to do is visually inspect it.

You can plant seed ...

Till add seed, fertalize, WATER the hell out of it until it takes.

There is also this crap they sell that is seed, fertilizer, and water retainer that is useful for smaller areas...

You can overseed, which requires a machine (rent it at homedepot) that breaks open the ground just enough to dispense seed into.

My guess is that sod isn't the way to go, unless you are worried that your topsoil is going to wash away allong with new grass seed.
