HIYA , i like to play an online game called Continuum..

at my school, they have Websense, which (afaik) allows only traffic on port 80...

i wish to play continuum at school ;P

there is the option for socks5 proxy in the game, yet i do not know how socks proxies work, or where to get hold of servers..

does anyone know any UK based servers that i could test?? - ON PORT 80!?

any help much appreciated

A couple of things:

Content filters work at the URL level - They will examine a HTTP request sent through port 80. If it's not HTTP, chances are it will be dropped. SOCKS is a totally different protocol than HTTP. Trying to get SOCKS to through a HTTP proxy would be like trying to squirt water through a speaker wire. Not gonna happen without another more sophisticated, layer of wrappers.

Most of the "experts" on this board are network admins of some form of another who enforce rules like this one. Most don't appreciate people asking how to subvert control systems. In general, if there's a control put in place it's there for your own good, either to contol the use of bandwidth or to ensure that you don't do something that would get you in trouble. If you really think there's a case to do this, go talk to the network admins.
