socket style CPU or slot style CPU

i am building a computer for the first time and i need to know if the socket style CPU is bettet or the Slot style CPU is better? i have heard socket style is better if so...
should i use a AMD Duron or Intel Celeron or AMD Thunderbird Athlon or Pentium 3-4? please help

Slot packaging ended with the P3 Coppermine series. They costed more to manufacture in comparison to the socket style. All current CPUs use socket packaging, and unless you want to use 3-generation old CPUs, you won't go slot :).

DEFINATELY do not buy a "slot" cpu and motherboard. They stopped making slot cpus a long time ago. If you buy a slot cpu and motherboard, you won't be able to upgrade.
