Hey yall,

Well I finally upgraded a PC from socket 939 to LGA 775. The directions with the CPU were colored illustrations and easy to follow. However they never showed/talked about the need for thermal paste.

Should I need any? I have a Q6660 and a P35 LGA 775 intel motherboard.

The type of cpu socket has nothing to do with wether or not thermal paste is used.
It is Always Applied in a Thin Layer (about like a sheet of paper thick) to the surface
that the heatsink / fan is being mounted or attached to. Some folk say that for the cpu
a small blob, say about 3/8 or 1/2 inch around, placed in the center is good. The heatsink
will squash it and spread it pretty good when you mount it.

Myself, I prefer to smooth it out myself using either a metal ruler or a solder probe to
even it out.
