The point of this thread, at least initially, was to speculate about how the release of AM3 would affect the value of AM2 in the short-term.

Given that AM2 chips won't perform much better than s939 chips and given the possibility of a short lifespan for AM2 as AMD's flagship platform, AM2 seems like a dead socket before it's even released.

It'll be easy for us enthusiasts to ignore AM2 altogether and wait for AM3 if we don't want to bother with Conroe.
