 A couple of questions I should know the answer to but too lazy to dig around:-

1. My mobo currently has an Anthlon Thunderbird 1ghz chip - Can this board fit an Athlon 2Ghz XP chip??

2. Will this mobo fit an nvidia geforce 4 ti4600 graphics card?

3. Will this kind of upgrade be worth the bother? I have 384mb of SDR PC133 memory on board, none of the new ddr stuff etc, because I think a new board would be needed for better memory.

Thanks to whoever for their advice.

I think you can use an XP Palomino CPU as long as you have the permitting BIOS.

I have an SL75DRV4 and it won't even take TBred XP's, so you're definitely fubared in that department.

It's hard to say whether or not the upgrade will be worth it. you may be better off in saving a bit of money on the CPU and buying an SL75DRV5 and getting an XP1700+ and some DDR instead. the Ti4600 will be a good card to use, but a TI4200 will save you the extra bucks needed to go DDR instead. it also depends what you are upgrading from.
Radeon 8500? stay still and hold off on the 4600.

that's my .02

thanks for the advice - very swift response. sod all wrong with an occasional short fuse - being miserable can be good for you.

For your info, I would be upgrading from a mighty geforce 2 mx (!!) - reason I mentioned the 4600 is because I stumbled on what
looked like a good price from a net retailer - £210 - the lowest 4200 was around £110 I think.

any further advice you can give would be appreciated. I have to sleep now. Later.
