Is there any way possible to make a Socket A heatsink/fan work on a Socket 754 motherboard ? I bought my brother a 754 cpu, and right now he is on Socket A. CPU came oem but since he is eager to try it, he asks this question. Will be about a week before the 754 sink/fan get's here...thanks

Well, the weight of the heatsink is enough to stop the chip from overheating (did that with celeron d 2.4ghz and it was fine was able to lift the heatsink off for a sec to see the temp jump to 84 C :p) i wouldnt recomend it though because U CAN DESTROY UR CHIP... In my case i couldnt care if the chip went up in smoke i guess ur not in the same boat :p.

Unless u got some bracket which will work, just wait for the heatsink.

very risky.surely you dont want to fry your new chip.I know your eager but just hold on and wait for the correct heatsink.god forbid something goes wrong and youll be asking yourself why did i do this.patience dude.or go to a local computer shop and buy a 10 dollar heatsink and run that till your good one comes in.

True. I dont want to ruin the chip. This is his first upgrade ever. Im helping him buy the hardware. I just bought the heatsink/fan yesterday. Yea, I think Ill wait for it to get here before I put his PC together. Ill tell him to wait a few more days.
