Socket A HSF

Hi,

I'm limping my 3200+ Athlon along for a few more months. Currently I have a cheap copper base/aluminum hsf. I'm not looking for extreme gains (no overclock) but something that will cool at least a little better thats not too expensive. My pc also travels frequently which rules out the massive ones. The problem is most of the ones listed socket A on newegg that got good reviews are no longer in stock. I was wondering if someone could recommend something thats still out there I can replce mine with.

Any help much appreciated,

I don't know why but I took the time to look for those (kind of intrigued because it's socket A).

I have no idea if the Volcano 9 is good or not but here is one:

I don't know if you can stand ordering from Canada, but I found some Volcano 8 in Canada:

Oddly enough, several retailers are listed there. The second on the list is infonec which I find ships fast once they get the payment. Here are direct links just in case they don't work in a couple of days.

The Volcano 8 seems like the right choice since you say you want to travel or whatever. So, that one is small enough. And it seems to have better airflow than the Volcano 9 that I linked up there. Hope your overclocking works because some people say their CPU only lasts a year and a half on overclocking.

Hard to find Sock A HSFs in stock. geeks.com may have some. Also check Nexfan.com and BuyExtras.com

I just sold a SI-97a. I can say from experience that it's extremely effective, quiet (depending on what fan you put on it), and "fairly" easy to install.

The Volcano series cool ok (i've used the 8, 10, and 12), but compared to the SI-97a they're junk. Unfortunately the price difference is pretty substantial.
