Socket A/7 heatsinks

I have a TBird 800, currently running at 900. When trying to go any higher, it gets too hot and hangs up (this happens when it reaches 49-50 degrees C. The system temperature never exceeds 33C). I am using the GlobalWin FOP32 heatsink now, but obviously it's not good enough. I also have an Alpha PFH6035 from my old computer, a K6-2 500.

I have two questions:

- Will the Alpha work on my TBird? I have heard about people who have actually crushed the core of the CPU trying to use old Socket 7 heatsinks. Whether it was their own or the heatsink's fault, I don't know...

- Will the Alpha, if it fits, work any better than the GlobalWin? I need better cooling...

fop32 and alpha performance is about the same...with alpha get a slight edge...(we are talking about alpha pal6035 here)

as far as your old alpha...no...it won't fit on the socket a...
i assume your t-bird is green looking...and from experience...900 is pretty much all you can get from air cooling...if you want to crack 950 or 1gb..most time you need water cooling...or you can just get a 7200rpm fan for your fop32..that might help...but again...green t-bird..(aluminum interconnect) their limitation is around 900...

blue t-bird..(copper interconnect) has average oc speed of 1gb...

not true, PCNut.com's Tbird 750 OC combo runs great @1050! Mine is running stable at 40 to 50 degrees C, and I only have fans through my slightly modded case. I have a 90mm lower-front, and an 80mm just above cpu in rear, and a Vantec socket-a heatsink with a small fan on it. And a small chipset/system fan as well. (20mm?). Also the stock 80mm PS fan at top rear blowing out.

This is on the abit kt7 Raid mobo.

but you dont need water to break 1 gig...
