Hi, i currently have a Socket A (642) mobo hardly any stores sell socket A CPU's jus wondering what is the highest Socket A CPU out there?. I currently have a AMD Ath XP 2800+ 2.10 GHz. wondering if theres anything higher

Thanks,

Kadunk

As memory serves me, 3500+ was the fastest socket A (462) CPU released. Do you know what model of cpu you have? (barton, Thoroughbred (sp), Palmenio, Applebred). Some of the Athlon XP series where known for their excellent overclocking capabilities.

I thought highest was 3200+... anywho ---> if youre looking to upgrade to another Socket A CPU, i wouldnt reccomend it

Here in Brazil, it is possible to find the Sempron 3300 for socket A. It is a rebadged Athlon XP 3200+, same core (Barton), same clock (2.2GHz) and FSB. The main advantage over the AXP is the price, as it is sold for much less... I have one of these on my good-old Abit AN7, by the way...

I know for sure 3400+ existed. I know because I had overclocked a mobile 2500+ and it outperformed the 3200 and quite possibly the 3400. Cannot remember, however.

Sorry, 3200+ was the final Athlon XP Socket A Processor. 3400+ exists, but not as Socket A/Athlon XP

oh nevermind, you're right. I remember now, Windows reported the chip as being rated as somewhere around a 3400+ after the overclock.
you two were right 😉

AMD made very few engineering samples of an Athlon XP 25000+ (8.8GHz) with 16MB of L2 cache. If you can find one it'll only set you back $6,000.:Q

I'll trade you my 6x86 PR166 for it 😉

No, it was a 16 MB L1 cache with a 128 MB L2 cache and a 512 MB L3 cache.

The fastest Socket A's are just insanely priced. You could get a motherboard, an X2 3600 CPU, and some memory for what an Athlon XP 3200 goes for.

^^ I just got a socket A Barton 3200+ for $75 shipped. is that a good deal?

it will be maxing out my mobo so I will have to buy a new mobo next time I want to upgrade.
