socket 939 vs. socket AM2

just looking for confirmation, 939 and AM2 are different socket types for AMD processors where 939 is for single core and AM2 is for X2(dual core) cpus, correct?

No, s939 is the old socket, socket AM2 is the socket that replaced s939. s939 has been phased out, and s939 tech is more expensive then AM2 tech, and s939 uses ddr ram, where as AM2 uses ddr2. In the end, AM2 is about equally fast, but a lot cheaper ...

Just one more thing, s939 support dual core CPU's. First generation Athlon X2's were on s939.

One thing that made me look twice was the day I did a pifast test on my 939- 3200 then popped in a AM2 4000 Bisbane and ran it again. The 939 was 15% faster, yet the AM2 does better rendering.

DDR2 is generally cheaper than DDR1.
