Help?

I don't really want to do a system overhaul. My chipset fan died on my dfi, so I figured I'd
a) replace the chipset fan
or
b) just buy a new motherboard

unfortunately it seems dfi isn't manufactured or sold or something.. and i don't even see the old asus a8n.

What's going on? Where can someone like me buy these old, outdated, useless products?

=(

Really don't want to rebuy ram and everything.. rather not do it.

What's going on? S939 boards are 2-3 years old if not older. Technology advances. AM2 replaced S939. You should understand this...

what jonmcc said, should be fairly easy to find a fan for the chipset, or an aftermarket cooler

I think you've answered your own question there.;)
I've got my s939 sitting here running nicely with an HR-05 NB cooler but I fully realise the CPUs are EOL and DDR ram is now superseded by v2 & 3, therefore why would an MB manufacturer continue to make boards to suit a 'dead' components?

Time to get an after-market cooler for your DFI (Google 'DFI video tutorials') or maybe just fully embrace the 21st Century

I would just replace the heatsink with a copper one. It may not even need a fan. Use some of your cpu thermal paste when you apply it. You may also use a video chipset heatsink/fan, but the fans tend to be noisier. Many of them will fit your motherboard chipset.

you need an Evercool VC-RE. Better than the stock heatsink, lowered my temps 5 degrees and idle and load are now basically the same. This is with a 300mhz fsb speed and an 8800GTS sitting right on top of it. Also, DFI Lanparty's are considered enthusiast motherboards-what that means is as soon as a newer/faster/better processor socket comes out, they shift focus to those sockets. Basically, DFI is only making S775 C2D/C2Q boards and AM2 boards atm. Other brands continue supporting older sockets but S939 is basically dead (although pretty much just as fast as an AM2, hence the reason I still have mine, if I built a new pc today it would be Intel).

I replaced my lanparty chipset cooler with the VC-RE over a year ago and it's still running strong. It's actually better at cooling the NB. Cost me about $15 shipped

I just upgraded to Core2 myself...was looking at handing my A64 3200+ down to my wife, but I think I'll go with AM2 for her now...sell my A64 stuff while I can still get some $$$ for it.

I've been contemplating the same thing as seen here: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2114413&enterthread=y

I've been leaning toward 775 though as the AM2 stuff hasn't impressed me though i'm not educated enough on either to make a real informed decision.

Support the Evercool vc-re chipset fan - I replaced the ones on my 2 DFI Ultra-D boards within 1 week of ownership (a year ago) and still going. There are other choices e.g. Zalman/Thermalright chipset fans.
To the original OP I hope your SouthBridge was not damaged in the process.
If you are set on changing your MB then look around at Tigerdirect - you can still find but supplies are dwindling.

Well, you have to decide whether you want the better performance (in most areas) of a Core2 Duo from Intel or the cost savings of the AM2 from AMD. I split the difference...I upgraded to the Core 2 platform pretty cheaply by getting the Abit IP35-E for $70 after a rebate, and then just bought a Intel Dual-Core 2160 for $80. You can get RAM pretty cheap these days. You should be able to get to a Dual Core system for just about $200, if you can reuse everything else in your current system. I plan to overclock the 2160 as high as it can stably go...3.0-3.2 Ghz I hope.

Looks like a rip off of the Vantec Iceberq 4.

Bonesdad - just curious whether you can run that E2160 at say 460 X 7 on that killer board. The GA-P35-D3SL is a dawg does not want to go higher than 416FSB. For now I am at 400 X 8 and mem timings at 1000 (1.43V)

E21x0 and E4xx0 are limited to about 425MHz FSB.
