I apologize for the stupidity of this question but before I tell someone to go ahead and buy the 939 mobo, I want to make sure that it's compatable.

I CAN use my 754 processor on this 939 board correct?

again, I apologize for the stupidity of this question but MSI's website doesn't exactly say it does. I did see that toms hardware says that the 939 supports ALL athlon 64 processors, and this is what I've thought since it was released but I do not want to say "buy it" without an 'expert's' opinion :)

Thanks guys

sorry for changing the subject.... can someone link me to a review of newcastle vs. clawhammer. was planning on buying the 3200+ nc (that's if i can't wait for the price drop in 939's), but then i saw the clawhammer with 1 meg cache. what's the dif in performance and price? i've only heard the raves about the nc, is there a good reason for that? i can't start my own post for some reason, cuz the comp at work is a POS. anyways. some light on the subject would really clear up my confusion. not that my question is any less stupid, just may take up more space to answer. thanks!!!

It may fit... I don't think anyone's ever tried it though... but they're definately not electrically compatible.

I was just confused by stupid toms hardware when they said that the 939 socket supports ALL athlon 64 processors.

No they will not work. If you read ANY review of 939, you'll see that it has dual channel ram capabilities and therefore the processors, which have on-chip memeory controllers, will not work on each other's platforms. Also, the number of pins is different and I would suppose require a different layout of pins, so the 754 will not fit into 939. If it does, you most certainly will not get it to POST. Etc etc.

that's the long answer to your short question

Summary: It won't work!

Percentage certainty: 1 quadrillion %

Weather outside: raining like a bitch

Percentage of exhaustion and fatigue of my brain at this hour of night: 75%

Is the previous statement irrelivant to this post and my certianty of my correctness: yes

Would i bet my life that they aren't compatible> Yes

Hope that's enough to convince you not to try to plug a 2800 into a 939 board
