Socket 939 & AGP motherboard

I was thinking of getting the MSI K8N NEO2 Platinum motherboard, but it doesn't seem to be instock anywhere.

Is there another motherboard that might be a better choice, or do I stick it out and wait? Also, been reading up on the nForce3 and K8T800 Pro, but can't figure out which one is better.

I'd be using a Athlon 64 3000+ and AIT AIW X800XT AGP with it.

Thanks!
Mike

I dunno about ULi. I'm kinda wary of them myself, and even put them below VIA (which I absolutely despise). IMO, I would DEFINITELY look for something based on the nForce3 250-Ultra chipset, as they are the best performing and most stable of the bunch. I would recommend the K8N Neo2 Platinum, but if you can't find it in stock, go with the Epox nForce3 Ultra board, as I've heard good things about it 😉 .

It seems like the MSI board is out of stock everywhere... 🙁

If I don't want to go with the ASRock (though i don't know why...)

Which would be better? Abit AV8 (K8T800 chipset), Epox 9NDA3+ (nForce3), or Asus A8V Deluxe (K8T800)?

Try FS/FT... these things are being sold constantly as people are going PCI-E.
If not, I think the EPoX would be the best only because it uses the nForce3 chipset. The others are probably great for stabililty, perhaps not so much for OCing.

The MSI is always out of stock.

I have a Gigabyte GA-K8NS Ultra-939 (nForce 3) and it has been great so far (1 year old). I don't overclock, so I can't speak for its abilities.

The board is super stable, supports X2 chips (not Beta support either), and it works well with the X800XT AIW (I have one as well. Nice card).

Some people loath Gigabyte, but I have never had touble with their products. As for MSI, well... do you like gambling? 😉

One downside is the CPU retention bracket. Gigabyte uses a plastic back plane on the bracket. If you want a big cooler like the XP120 (which I have) or the Thermaltake Big Typhoon, you'll need to buy a replacement. Not a big deal, as they are available most anywhere (ie http://www.bigfootcomputers.com/Merchan...D&Product_Code=1362&Category_Code=5.41 ).

Read the reviews, look at the benchmarks. I grant you any new product should be given a hard look before buying it, but everything I've read about this board is good. A little tweaking and it could very well beat anything with an iNvida chipset. That would be good for all of us.
