Does anyone know what Intel's roadmap for desktop motherboards is? I don't want to shell out big bucks for one of these new motherboards that support Conroe only to find out a new socket is to be introduced 6 months later. Will those future quad-core cpus run on socket 775?

This is the same question I've been asking. Looking on Intel's website there is no outright mention of a new socket, and unlike AM3, I have been unable to find name or any mention whatsoever. I hope someone else has a firm answer.

well...up to now there hasn't been any mention of a new socket from intel
in my opinion, with the "success" of conroe as it is on this current 775, i don't think they'll be phasing it out or changing it any time soon.

Doesn't matter... future CPUs may not be supported on current motherboards even if they share the same socket. For instance, many "current" socket 775 boards don't support Core 2 Duo.
