Hey, I'm getting a Socket 754 motherboard. Can anyone reccomend me a good motherboard?

I want it to have Intergrated Ethernet

Intergrated sound is not important

At least 4 usb ports

I will be overclocking my CPU 0-400 mhrz

I am considering the MSI K8n Neo Platinum, is this a good decison? What does it have and not have?

Integrated. No R. Thank you. I'm sure you don't want any grates inbetween your components. ;)

The items you listed are on pretty much any socket-754 board out there.

AsRock is fine. They are a division of Asus. They just use the SIS chipset. QC is the same at AsRock as it is at Asus. though the boards are budget and use the cheaper chipset.

Asus JUST released the K8N-e Platinum (their Nforce 3 250GB board), and it's PROBABLY a really great board (although technically we haven't see reviews yet).

Actually Asus have come out publically that their quality cannot be compared as they are totally different companies. There might have been some 'tension' because of the similar model names.

I'm pretty sure Asrock may have learnt a thing or two from Asus but they are 2 totally different companies now.

ASRock is awesome, I have the K8S8X and it is rock stable and fast too. Hands down the best budget ($85) mobo for A64. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

If you want overclocking you should stick with the nVidia NF3 250 chipset for the moment.
The MSI K8N NEO Platinum should be fine.
I'd guess the Asus K8N-E will be a little better at overclocking.
Abit doesn't have an NF3 board yet.

If you don't require overclocking, you could use a VIA or nVidia chipset.
I've had too many bad experiences with SIS chipsets over the years to recommend them.
Abit, Asus, and MSI make good boards with a VIA chipset.
Choose the one with the best features/price.

SIS has got pretty good chipsets and underrated for the last 2 gens for AMD at least.
Its VIA we have to be wary off. I've got a ton of headaches with the KT266 and KT266a.

The 755 chipset looks pretty good but is plagued by only 2nd/3rd rate manufacturers
currently having mobos for 754 socket. Hopefully top tier vendors will come out with
755 boards soon. Asrock is decent for now if you can't wait.

The MSI Neo also seems to have strange problems in some threads. I'm not sure if
its still unstable or because so many have been shipped that no. of problems are simply
proportional to MSI neo owners.

I've got an Asus K8V SE Deluxe (from the AMD promo package) and I wouldn't recommend it. It's picky about RAM and it doesn't overclock well. Very stable once you get the right RAM but now I have 2x512MB PC3200 sticks of Mushkin sitting here that I can't use ;(.

bottom of the page

looks like asus doesn't like mushkin; sometimes reading before buying works..
built two systems w/ the k8v se deluxe and have had no problems, just stick with the memory that the mobo manuf. recommends and you'll be fine. I'm not sure if "picky" is the right word, it tells you what will work and what may or may not work

My Asus K8V Deluxe works wonderfully. There isnt a huge difference between all these mobos unless you plan to overclock a lot. Even look at anandtech and look at how minimal they all differ in performance by like 2 fps ranges! Go for the boards with the least problems, and brands that are known for reliability. Asus and Abit seem to be in that description. MSI Neo Plat seems to have a lot of problems, which turned me away from it.
