I recently got GigaBytes GA-K8NS Pro and a Athlon XP 2800+ for Christmas. The GA-K8NS Pro is a socket 754 Motherboard... will my processor work?

No fit. Return the Athlon XP for a Sempron 754(3100+) or Athlon64 2800+ Socket 754. You might have to spend some more to make that switch(most likely, I'm not sure what prices are at the moment) though. If you can't afford spending more, return the Motherboard and get a good NForce2 motherboard.

 Just get the cheapest A64 you can find. Go ahead and return the mobo too if you can and want to find something cheaper.

If that gets A64 within budget, great advice! :)
