get an entirely new system. 478 is old, and is on it's way out. besides, conroe offers ridiculous performance compared to your P4.

Ok, thanks. I will start saving my money. Will this Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz / 1066MHz 2MB offer better proformance or will I have to get a higher end one?

Switch out sockets, either for conroe when it comes out, or if you want to do it sooner you can't go wrong with the AMD X2's. I wouldn't recommend going with Intel until conroe.

As fun as the 478's are to overclock, the platform is dead. Only one or two 478 motherboards support PCI-E, they're really hard to find, and not very good overclockers. That's not only important for gaming, but also AFAIK there won't be any new AGP cards that support DX10 coming out, and Vista is going to make major use of DX10.

I'm still in high school and i'm starting my summer job soon so I will probably save up until conroe. Will it use ddr or ddr2 ram as my current motherboard uses ddr and would like to know if I can use it?

Based on the system in your .sig, I think a mostly new system is in order. You'd want a new CPU, HSF (or use retail depending), motherboard, RAM, video card and PSU. You may be able to keep your case if it has decent ventilation, and you can probably keep your optical and hard drives if they still suit your purposes.
