Slot 1 cpus were essentially a cartridge that fit onto the motherboard. They were "blade" processors. Socket 370 cpus are like the packaging you see today (PPGA). You can, however, run a socket 370 cpu on a slot motherboard by using a "slocket" which monuts the 370 cpu onto a slot 1 cartridge. You can probably find them on the for sale forum or a good retailer.

no , the are totally different things , one is a slot, one is a socket. if i were you i would got to upgradeware.com and looke at there slockets, they are slot 1 to socket 370 adapters and then get a celeron tualitun 1.2 or higher to go in that system

A socket 370 is a socket 370. Same for Slot 1. It means that newegg doesn't sell them.

What you'd be looking for is a P3 1GHz Slot 1 with 100 FSB. You can find P3 1GHz Slot 1s but with 133 FSB.

There was a limited run of those made for Intel server boards.

If I were you I'd get a Slot-T adapter from Upgradeware and buy a Celeron 1.4 GHz. It's 40% faster than your PIII 1 GHz with 100 MHZ FSB (which are impossible to find now), and it Upgradeware says it works in the BE6-II.

Slot-T adapter $20 (They also sell the Celeron 1.4 for $60, but you can get it for ~$50 elsewhere.)

Agree. Only things is, it is hard to find the 1.4s now. You may have to get a 1.3. In either case, it is a better CPU then the 1G,

You are running an 800EB on a BX board. That is 133 FSB. Your AGP is way out of spec @ 89 MHz. PCI should be OK as long as you are using the 1/4 divider. not 1/3.

^ great suggestion, the Tualatin celerons were great CPUs for their time, nothing like the old 66 MHz cellys or the lousy P4-celerons out now.

With the Slot-T, the BE6-II indeed does.

I am running a Celeron 1.4 Tualatin on my old Asus P2B at home using a Slot-T, and that board doesn't natively support Tualatin either.

Both the Abit BE6-II and the Asus P2B use the BX chipset.

Ignore that. It works. :) I've used them in several boards that don't officially support them. Check the Upgradeware site for compatibility HERE

AH! Slotket adapters! You're bringing back very bad memories. Those things aren't the greatest...
anyway, for any money spent on such an incremental upgrade, I would recoemmend picking up a cheap ASUS board and Athlon XP for little if any more.

I've used CuMine and Tually Slocket setups many times and never had a problem with them. My Linux server is running with a CuMine Celly 1G Slocket, I have 3 friends that I did upgrades for that are running Tually 1.4s. One is an Abit BH6, the other two are Asus P3B-F. They work perfectly. My sisters PC is an old BX6 with a C900 and a Slocket. My wifes friend has a P3B-F with a Celly C1.1 in a Slocket. There are more I've set up that dont spring to mind. They work fine.

Have you ever seen a Slot-T? It's actually nicely made. It's not like the cheap no-name slockets you find in the local hole-in-the-wall shop. Not that it matters anyway, since those cheap no-name slockets generally don't support Tualatin on BX anyway.

Plus, buying a CPU and Slot-T upgrade for $70 seems like a better deal than spending $200+ on a new CPU, motherboard, and memory, ripping your case apart for a new mobo, and then having to reinstall the OS and all of your software. Time is money.

Swapping in a Slot-T CPU takes all of 5 minutes.

the abit slotket i used back in the day was solid, especially considering the abuse i gave it (silicone everywhere, peltier coolers, giant heatsinks hanging off it, constantly being swapped in and out).
