socket 370 HSF = socket A HSF???

I suspect the answer to this question is not a simple one but here goes.

Are socket 370 Heat sink and fans interchangable with Socket A HSF?

I'd like to put a volcano II (made from socket A) on a Cel2 socket 370.

Will it fit?

No, the clip has different resistance, putting a socket 370 clip on a socket a MAY kill (crush) the cpu.. A socket a should work okay on a socket 370..

an alpha pal6035/pep66 can be used on BOTH. most globalwins can be used on BOTH.

If I'm reading this correctly, In most cases you can put a socket A clip and heat sink on a socket 370 cpu. However, putting a socket 370 heat sink on a socket A cpu requires too much pressure and may damage the socket A cpu.

Is this correct? If so, what I want to do will work. I want to put the volcano II (socket A) heat sink on a celeron socket 370 cpu. Sounds like it'll work.

Please confirm.

ps additionally, there are "some" heat sinks that are completely interchangable such as those mentioned above.

I've been looking into doing this too (Volcano 2 on my Celeron 600) and I've had several people tell me they have Celerons or P3s and have been able to put Volcano 2s on there chips with no prublems.

I put a FDP32 socket-370 heatsink on my Tbird socket A with no problem. Of course this doesn't mean that it's ok to do, and I probably just got lucky and didn't bust my core.

I just had a bright idea, why can't you just bend the clip a little bit to give you less resistance? (I assume that is the problem, as the clips fit the same) You should be able to bend it enough to give you enough less resistance (bad english, I know). Also, you could just use a copper shim/spacer.

isn't all socket hsf says it fits socket 370 and socket a?
but some are up to the cooling performance for celeron and p3 only,
some are ok for duron and athlon,
some are for higher speed athlon,
you've only to care about which one you need.
