Online it appears the coolers are universal fit for 1155 and 775. I tried putting a intel heatsink assy from a 1155 only and older motherboard with a 775 and the holes are a tad off. Is this right or am I missing something?

Assy??? o_O

Yeah they're not compatable. 1156/1155/1150 are all the same, 775 is different. The coolers you see will use different parts or different holes on the same parts to mount onto 775.

Note the 3 different holes on the metal bits (two of them overlap). One is for AMD, the other is 775 and the last is a 1156/1155/1150 mount.

The Zalman 95xx coolers seem to work on most Intel style boards as they come with all the different adapters for the different socket types.

assy = assembly.

I thougt it was differnt even though you can;t tell by holding it up to each other. It must be every so slightly smaller, like 1/32nd of an inch.
