There's a girl I've been friends with for a few months now. We started talking after she broke up with her boyfriend. Her ex is actually on my indoor soccer team and is my friend in that regard. However, I've only spent time with him twice outside of soccer, and they were both to help fix his computer.

Now, should I decide to date this girl, am I commiting a social taboo? Should I lay off the girl because of who her ex is?

I'm probably going to ask her out anyway, but I'm just curious what the populous thinks


UPDATE: So I asked her out since it seems obvious that I didn't have to worry about stepping on any toes. I asked her very indirectly (didn't want to screw up the friendship). She said she thinks I'm really sweet and nice but she's just not interested in having a boyfriend right now.

I'm sure she's just being nice but we're still cool, nothing weird between us. Oh well, she's pretty cute. Would have been fun
 
go for it, you're not very close w/ the ex if he's just a teammate. now, if you and her were good friends, then it'd be different

Agreed. At that point, youd have to get pictures of you hitting it, and then show off said pictures...
