When ya'll are ready to retire you'll be saying, "Social Security? Isn't that the thing that supported my grandparents when they got old? Yeah, I think I've heard of it."

It's true but I've been getting a check for over 10 years and I need it.

Yeah, but our parents paid that asinine tax for themselves already. God forbid we try and put an end to that BS! :|

My understanding is that our parents DID NOT pay for it. The system relied on having many times more people paying into the system than receiving funds (as in, a rapid growth rate). They knew that would no continue to take place, but they left the burden on our generation anyway.

SS if fvcked because it relies on a pyramid social structure. Problem is, the birth rate is down (currently 1.8, below maintenance) and in 20 years the worker to retiree ratio is only 2:1. It used to be a lot higher. Combine that with all the expensive healthcare stuff, and you've got a problem. Payments are already at poverty level, so retirement age is going up, or SS will be taken away from us completely.

If people invested their contributions started when they work into just a low return balanced mutual fund, they would be SS. It's a load of crap.

Social Security is a fvcking joke. 'Nuff said.

During a game of Apples to Apples, the green card was "Joke" and I happened to put down "social security". I won that round 😛

News Flash. There is NO such thing as SS trust fund!!!!!!!. All we have now is a bunch of IOUs from the government.

Young folks like us need to save as much as possible and don't count on SS when we are old.

NO doubt, this generation got screwed over! SS is the biggest pyramid scheme in the entire world.

People are living longer and the younger generation are having less kids, more works are being outsourced, meaning this entire pyramid scheme is going to fall apart in 30 years, right when I'm supposed to collect.
