Thomas jefferson once said " a man who does not read newspaper is more educated then one who does" which is true because most of us do not even question what we read and just except it as facts. we dont have the ability to reason anymore nor think critically in any situation. we expect news media to inform us of our surrounding but often report what they want you to hear rather then what really happened.
we have been conditioned to be a cash cow for the industry, in return we have low quality foods to keep us alive. a very big price to pay, trading freedom for living expenses. debts that can never be paid off, generation after generation, americans are becoming poorer. most of us believe what most people believe or assume that it is factual just because we heard it on the news. even my mother mentions "freedom" numberous time in her defense against my critising of the american government. Too much pride often leads to deafening of the ears, and complete anti-social as well; her head must be 100 ft buried deep in the ground. Nothing I say can get through to her. :(

I think we all know its a bg scam. When it started there were 16 people paying for 1 person getting benefits, now its like 3 to 1. That and people live a lot longer. The money I put into social security is not for my future but is paying current beneficiaries. I think the government should not force me into this pyramid scheme they concocted and let me invest my own money. Okay end rant.

So how do we go about fixing it? We can't just stop paying it because the cvurrent beneficiaries will be out in the cold.

the only way to fix it is to start squeezing someone. you can't continue to have the same tax rate and the same payout rate, there just isn't enough growth in the base to support the growth at the top.

I think they should change it to be more of a welfare type of program. You need to qualify for it.
Secondly they need to let us have privatized accounts.

Just give us back all the money we have paid into it. Then SS is free to do with as you will.

exactly.

I find it funny that my mom bitches constantly about how little she's receiving. Well, she bitches until I remind her how much she's put into Social Security in her life - I *think* she maybe worked a year or two when she was in her late teens.

Good luck seeing any of that.
