Thank the Dems for this abortion of a social program, and the GOP is the only party with enough balls to try and fix it!

Watch out Ornery, you used the word abortion in a negative context, you're doubly ticking off the libs with your reply. 😀

They need to can the whole stupid program and give me back my money. I think I can figure out how to save it like with most of the rest of my $$$, thank you very much.

I'm reminded of that South Park epidsode with the old people revolution...

Ha. You think they'd give you back what you paid into it? Think of it as a rebate check that got lost in the mail and the customer service number has been disconnected. :Q

I love how noone is bothered that social security is being raided to reduce income taxes on top earners, but $1B overpaid, and everyone is upset.

Bush, Kerry Debate Social Security
  • After assuring current retirees and those nearing retirement that their benefits wouldn't be altered by reform, President Bush outlined his vision for a system of private accounts, stressing that action on reform to create stability and better returns for young workers would be a "vital issue" in his second term.

Senator Kerry responded to the president's remarks, calling a system of private accounts "an invitation to disaster," though he offered no plan of his own other than suggesting that economic growth could solve the problems.

Well, they pay the most, why shouldn't they get the most back?

I'm pissed off because Social Security is a bullshit system. Pure fraud. If I pulled this crap, I'd be in jail for a long time.

They can keep my employer's 7.5% contribution. At the very least, let me roll MY 7.5% into my 401k or a Roth.

Neither party knows how to fix it, they just think they do. All the solutions proposed so far are either some form of "keep it as is until it runs dry" or "cut income now so that it runs out earlier"; it's a pyramid scheme, someone has to lose. Frankly, the only solution I know of that works is if we instituted a breeding program with enough sex to make the 60's hippies' jaws drop, to create a 2nd baby boom to support the 1st baby boom.

Didn't put anything in? TOUGH SH1T!
The only people who didn't put anything in are long dead...

Dubya suggested a move toward privatizing SS in the last presidential candidate debate which has been stated before in the thread. Kerry wants to shrug off the burden of trying to solve the problem onto the next president's shoulders.

You only pay the social security tax for the first ~$85000 of your income. So, there are a lot of different people with a large range of income that all pay the same amount.

SuperTool used a classic Red Herring logical fallacy to try to bring income taxes for the rich into the argument, which doesn't apply.
